About GERD.org
GERD.org is an independent patient information site about acid reflux and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. Our aim is to help people understand what is happening in their body, make informed day-to-day choices, and have better conversations with their doctors.
What we are, and what we are not
- We provide general, evidence-based information written in plain English.
- We are not a substitute for a doctor, pharmacist or other health professional, and we cannot answer personal medical questions.
- Our tools help you notice patterns. They do not diagnose anything.
- We are not affiliated with any hospital, clinic, government body or drug company.
Editorial policy
Sources
Every guide starts from current clinical guidelines, chiefly the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) guideline on GERD, the UK's NICE guidance, and expert reviews from the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), supported by systematic reviews and key studies. Each page lists its sources. We trace popular claims back to their original evidence, and we say so when evidence is weak or mixed.
Writing
We write in British English for a general audience, define medical terms, and avoid overstating evidence or presenting early findings as settled.
Medical review
Our guides are written and checked by the GERD.org editorial team against the guidelines listed on each page. We are working towards independent review by a qualified clinician, and we will name them here when that is in place.
Updates
Every page shows when it was last updated. We review all guides at least once a year, and sooner when a major guideline changes. The research digest updates automatically every week from PubMed; it lists new publications but does not change our guidance by itself.
Corrections
If you spot an error or something out of date, please email info [at] gerd [dot] org. We will review it promptly and correct the page where needed.
How we are funded
GERD.org may earn a commission from affiliate links, such as Amazon links on our helpful products page, and may in future show clearly labelled advertising. Commercial relationships never influence our health content. We do not accept payment for coverage.
