Are fizzy drinks bad for acid reflux?

Common trigger

Fizzy soft drinks combine carbonation, acidity and often caffeine, all of which can worsen reflux symptoms.

Tips

  • Cut them out for two weeks to test.
  • If you have one, avoid it in the evening.

Try instead

Still water, diluted non-citrus squash or coconut water

Is it a trigger for you?

Reactions vary a lot between people. Log cola and fizzy soft drinks in the symptom diary for two weeks: it shows how often each food is followed by symptoms. Then try two weeks without it and compare.
