Is orange juice bad for acid reflux?
Common trigger
Orange juice is acidic. It is unlikely to cause reflux by itself, but it often stings an inflamed oesophagus, especially on an empty stomach in the morning.
Tips
- If you have it, drink a small glass with food rather than first thing.
Try instead
Water, pear juice or a smoothie made with banana and melon
Is it a trigger for you?
Reactions vary a lot between people. Log orange juice in the symptom diary for two weeks: it shows how often each food is followed by symptoms. Then try two weeks without it and compare.
